Salon Concert April 25, 2014 Bain, Finnegan and Gleeson

Don’t miss a great night of traditional Irish music with Chicago musicians, Chris Bain, Pat Finnegan and Paudie Gleeson for the monthly Salon Series Concert this April.

The trio met some years ago in the Irish music session scene on the Northwest Side of Chicago. All being quite competent on their own instruments, there is a special connection that drives the music that they create as a trio.

Flute and whistle player Pat Finnegan was born in Chicago to Irish Parents and began playing flute in 1977. Finnegan plays the Sligo or North Connaught style, which he learned from legends Kevin Henry and Albert Neary, who are both from that region. Pat has performed at many festivals, for President Obama at the White House. He has also hosted two of Chicago’s most vibrant and successful sessions for over the last decade at Gaelic Park and The Grafton Pub.

Concertina player Paudie Gleeson hails from Gneeveguilla, Co. Kerry, in the heart of Sliabh Luachra, an area famous for its musicians and poets. He learned a much of his music from his father, Paudie, and Nicky McAulliffe, both who play the fiddle.

Fiddle and Bouzouki player Chris Bain was born in Chicago to musical parents. In addition to growing up with all the classic recordings, Bain was influenced by various teachers. His own travels in Ireland and Britain added to Chris’s own style and personal approach to the music, and is a reflection of Chicago’s own dynamic style. Chris was co-founder of the Irish trad group, Bua, and a member of The Drovers.

The Chris Bain, Pat Finnegan and Paudie Gleeson Salon Concert is Friday, April 25 at 8pm.

Tickets are $12 for adults and children 18 and under are free.
