Salon Concerts Chicago is thrilled to announce that we are presenting Trian – featuring Liz Carroll, Billy McComiskey and Dáithí Sproule at the Fifth Province in a very special show Thursday, April, 20, 2017 at 8pm.

Three of Celtic music’s most acclaimed and award – winning musicians, Liz, Billy and Dáithí perform as Trian, a band they originally formed in the 1980s. While tied to traditional music, the trio uses exquisite musicianship to take the traditions a step further.

Born in Chicago, Liz’s playful and expressive fiddling, along with her massive original repertoire, have made her a worldwide legend. She was called “one of today’s most celebrated torchbearers of traditional Irish music” by Irish Music Magazine. Liz was a 1994 recipient of this country’s highest honor in folk and traditional arts, the National Heritage Fellowship.

Named a 2016 recipient of the National Heritage Fellowship, Billy is revered as player and composer on both sides of the Atlantic and is credited with raising the profile and stature of the button accordion. The Brooklyn born artist was called the “finest and most influential box player ever to emerge from the US” by music critic Earle Hitcher.

Born in Derry, Ireland and now based in Minnesota, Dáithí was called a “seminal figure in Irish music” by the Rough Guide to Irish Music. A member of the internationally celebrated band Altan, Dáithí is known for his pioneering guitar styles including the use of DADGAD tuning. He is also a fine singer in English and Irish.

The Salon Concerts series is dedicated to providing its audience with opportunities to listen to high-quality Irish music performed by talented musicians in an intimate and friendly concert setting.

The Academy of Irish Music Performing Group will be the opening act.
