“Overwhelmed at the moment, but now more than ever, we need a reminder of joy is still an option. Frankie’s music is all that and more, to say the least… TONIGHT!” Shared from Tim Britton! Cafe Paradiso in Fairfield, Iowa 8pm!”
“Back in the mid 70s when super groups such as The Bothy Band and Planxty were first smashing traditional Irish music through the glass walls around popular culture, a group of young geniuses quietly drove audiences into a frenzy with their combo of relaxed backbeat pocket and razor sharp intensity. While various luminaries revolved through their ranks over the ensuing decades, the vice grips virtuosity of fiddler and flute player Frankie Gavin was always center stage.
At the age of seventeen, Frankie won two All Ireland competitions – for fiddle and flute. He has played for four American presidents, starting, as a seven-year old, when he played for John F. Kennedy on his 1962 visit to Ireland and over the years played and recorded with the likes of The Rolling Stones, Elvis Costello, Stéphane Grappelli and Yehudi Menhuin.
At 8pm on Wednesday Nov. 9th, Frankie will take his irrepressible effervescence to Café Paradiso in Fairfield, accompanied by fiddler Tommy McCarthy and Louise Costello on banjo.
Tickets are $20 in advance (available online and at Cafe Paradiso) or $25 at the show.”
